Birth Story | Oliver Thomas

Wow, I was so honored and blessed to be able to document Oliver Thomas's birth story! This was a pretty profound experience for me as it was also my first time being in a labor and delivery room. While that may be scary for some people, I think I have the best job in the entire world! I loved seeing Brian support Staci through the birth of Oliver, especially through the pain. I was so amazed by how Staci could smile that big smile in between contractions! Her joy just beamed from her face! She labored for quite awhile before Oliver began to get distressed so they went ahead with a cesarean section. And when Oliver finally entered the world, it was such a triumph! I was holding back tears the entire day. I hope when Oliver is old enough he can watch the video of his birthday and realize how amazing his parents are, and see how they prayed and loved and cared for him, even before he was born. It was such a beautiful experience to be a part of. Staci and Brian—Congratulations!!

Also on a personal note, I wanted to thank Lydia Steumke for meeting with me and encouraging me through my first birth photography experience! She explained so much to me beforehand and was so willing and passionate to talk about birth photography—without her I'm sure I would've been a nervous wreck (did I mention this was my first ever birth!?)! She is an amazing birth and lifestyle photographer on Oahu and is getting ready to move to central Illinois. Check out her work, she is so inspiring! http://lydiastuemke.com/

You may need to let the video load for a bit—would you let me know in the comments if you have viewing issues, so I can resolve any potential problems? I'd appreciate it!

My hubby and I did get to hold Oliver a week later, and I just have to share the picture because it pulls at my heartstrings! Someday (hopefully sooner than later) I could be a mom? ;)
