An alternative to the traditional photo session.
Ever think to yourself, "I should to hire a photographer"? Then you are immediately assaulted by the stress. The stress of picking outfits, arranging schedules. The visions of crying children bribed by lollipops while trying to hold a squirming toddler and looking at the camera. You're standing in a grouping you'd never stand in real life, all the while trying to act "real" and "natural" and "candid". Nothing about this situation is real, or natural, or candid?
If you can relate to that description above and hate the thought of going through another photo sessions like that then, I have great news for you.
What is a Storytelling Session?
A storytelling session is a unique photographic experience for the modern family. They're described as a ‘documentary' or a 'day-in-the-life' session. These can take place inside your home or at a favorite family location. These happen over the course of a day or evening, and are all about photographing what your life looks like NOW.
It is not an interview—I will not sit you down and ask you your deep dark secrets.
It is not a series of photo shoots over the course of time.
It is not a photo session with excess embellishments or props.
This session is ALL about the interaction and documentation of your family as they are.
This can be anything that makes your heart warm up a bit whenever you think of it. It's a walk to your favorite pizza joint. The perfect bonfire spot in the woods that you and your husband adore. The comfort of your own home allowing the kids' chaos to ensue.
As your photographer, my goal is to help YOU document your lives. We'll chat together before your session about what you and your family members do and enjoy doing. Together we'll craft a session that describes you and your family. This will help create a time capsule of sorts; displaying exactly where your family is at this particular stage in your lives.
These types of photographs are particularly raw and moving because they are a reflection of your life.
In other words, this is not a one-size-fits all, you'll be investing in a custom experience that all—and I do mean all family members to enjoy.
Cooking, reading, playing, snuggling, OR outside exploring. Hawaii’s beautiful hikes, even capturing what a beach day looks like for you. You'll receive a series of images telling the entire story just how you want to remember it. We are going to capture those ordinary, everyday moments together. We make them into absolutely extraordinary and meaningful keepsakes
THIS MEANS:
There is no posing.
You don't have to coordinate matching outfits.
You don't even have to worry about everybody looking at the camera all at the same time.
You'll get to enjoy a meaningful time with your family, low-stress and full of fun
EVERY member of your family gets to be in the frame. (Instead of having one person always behind the camera capturing memorable family events)
AND for the record, you are going to LOVE these photos.
BUT if you're still on the fence about this, I can always take one posed group photo at the end of each session. Those are important too.
That sounds awesome—but kind of awkward?
The thing is, it's fun. I think once you meet me you'll realize that I am a relaxed, friendly and easy-going person. I love and enjoy these storytelling sessions for families to remember for years to come.
Believe me, it's going to feel natural. I'm not going to be lurking around the corners. I'm relatable and my sessions feel more like hanging out with a friend. Trust me! We'll chat and laugh and I'll take pictures of meaningful moments that happen while we're together. We'll keep it real.
Additionally, you don't have to worry about being photographed with your mouth hanging open full of food. Or even concerned I'm going to photograph unflattering moments.
I come into a home with full respect of the family members, with your desires at heart.
My camera searches for meaning, moments conveying relationship and connection. Photographs help convey a story, and a sense of place. I'll take photos of things you didn't even know you wanted, and you'll be so glad for it. We'll have open conversations about this and any insecurities you may have before your session.
My favorite ever client response from a storytelling session was from the husband. He said, "wow, that was way less awkward than I thought it was going to be—actually, that was really fun!".
Okay, But, My Life is too Boring
I disagree with you. And I don't even know you. AND deep down you know it too. Life isn't about having extremely crazy stimulating experiences every day. That'd feel like the drop-off of a roller-coaster your entire life. Ugh!
Your life is beautiful, even in seemingly mundane moments. Ultimately, you know the people around you are the most important part of your life. Having the ability to document their true, real, totally unscripted personalities is much more meaningful than a perfectly posed photo will ever be.
